Parrot fish
The white sandy beaches that make you fall in love with the islands; do you know what they are basically made of? Parrot fish faeces. Yes, the parrot fish in Maldives make up to 90kgs of sand every year and help in making the islands bigger and sandier too. They bite the dead coral, and then the teeth in their throat reduce it to dust and as they have no stomachs, the parrot fishes then excrete this coral as sand.
Clownfish
Extremely territorial and known for being aggressive, the clown fish lives inside a sea anemone which protects the fish from predators while the clownfish attracts the anemone’s prey closer to the tentacles. They coexist and defend each other amongst their enemies under the seas.
Whale sharks, green sea turtles, manta rays, flying fish and dolphins are also spotted underwater in Maldives.
