Background to the Masmak Fort

Many would claim that this fort is the most preferred tourist destination in all of Saudi, and their claims would be correct. The fort is considered as a symbol of the rise of the Saudi nation, thanks to a historical battle involving it.

The Mythical Event

The Fort was built by a ruler who had seized control from the Al Saud family, who were the ruling class and exiled them. The fort was recaptured in 1902 by Amir Abdulaziz Al Saud who launched a brave offense after being exiled to Kuwait.

Experience the Nation’s Heritage

You can truly feel ancient Arabia through a visit to this incredible fort, and there’s so much more to explore in the vicinity as well such as the Grand Mosque, Deira Souq and Chop Chop Square. Those looking for serviced apartments in Riyadh, will find that properties such as properties such as Ascott Rafal Olaya Riyadh are located near the fort.

Opening Hours

Given the traditional nature of Saudi Arabia, the visiting hours are complicated. The fort is open from 9am to 12pm and then again from 4pm to 9pm. On Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays only men are allowed, with Mondays and Wednesdays reserved for families. The fort is closed on Fridays.
