The Masmak Fort is located in Ad Deira Riyadh and is a major attraction for students and visitors into Riyadh. It does not only represent the local culture but is also of historical interest to the nation.
History
Historically it represents the major turning point in the efforts of the king to unite the country and bring it under his rule in 1902. Its walls are thick and strong which describes the fort aptly. It was built during the reign of Abdullah Bin Rasheed. It stands today as a monument to the rise of the Saudi empire.
Architecture
The architecture is unique and befits its culture and tradition and evokes interest in it not only from within but also by the outside world. Travellers can base themselves in luxury hotels in Jeddah such as the Ascott Tahlia Jeddah for a more in depth knowledge of the history of Saudi Arabia.
Design
One of the prominent structures is the gate of the castle which stands 3.6 metres tall and has a width of about 2.65 metres. The small gate in the centre allows only people to enter individually. Located on each corner of the fort are watch towers around 18m in height and overlooking the main sitting room or the Diwan..
