One of the largest and oldest parks in Brisbane, New Farm Park offers an ideal urban sanctuary in which to enjoy fun family time or active pursuits, all amidst enchanting natural beauty.
Getting There
New Farm Park is near the city’s Central Business District and enjoys an idyllic setting overlooking the Brisbane River. Around a 12 minute cab ride from iStay River City, the park lies next to Brisbane Powerhouse and can also be reached via CityCat ferries or by bus (#196).

In the Beginning
The site of this heritage-listed public park was originally a farm where crops were grown though it subsequently became a racecourse. However, during 1914, Harry Moore and city architect Albert Herbert Foster got together to begin work on this picturesque escape that’s easy to enjoy for travellers staying at a hotel in Brisbane CBD.
Fun Day Out
There’s plenty of spaces at New Farm Park for exploration, relaxation and picnics as well. Kids will love the playground and the interconnected treehouses set amidst banyan trees, while activities like basketball, football, netball, croquet, tennis and cycling can be enjoyed too. Adding to the site’s charm, jazz bands perform here on Sundays.
Other Highlights
One of the key attractions is the bandstand that dates back to 1915 and which is set amidst a scenic river backdrop. There’s an avenue of jacarandas that’s quite fascinating as well as a garden that has thousands of roses of all colours. The joys of nature beckon!
