Location

History
Once known as the City of Panam, Sonargaon was the ruling capital of the Deva Dynasty up until the 13th century. Later on, it was rechristened as Sultanate of Bengal’s second capital and continued under that name until the arrival of the Mughals.
Mughal Connection
The Mughals have originated in India in 1526 when it was founded by a Turco-Persian leader called Barbur. The Mughals arrived in Sonargaon and it was ruled by the Mughal viceroys for many decades up until Bangladesh was formed in 1608.
