Sonargaon was once the capital of the ancient kingdom of Bengal ruled by Isa Khan. Today Bengal is divided into two: East Bengal that is Bangladesh and West Bengal, which belongs to India.
A History

The First and Oldest
Sonargaon was once called The City of Panam and belonged to the Deva dynasty up until the 13th century. Afterwards, it was adapted into the second capital of the Sultanate of Bengal and continued to be so until the coming of the Mughals.
Mughal Connection
The Mughals came from India, founded in 1526 by the Turco-Persian leader, Babur. Sonargaon was ruled by Mughal viceroys for almost a century until Bangladesh was formed in 1608.
