For over 8 centuries, Château de Fontainebleau was the only residence that was home to many rulers. The castle was marked as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Origins
The earliest record of the castle was during the reign of Louis VII in 1137. Over the next couple of centuries, the castle was modified and changed to suit the styles of the ruling monarch, such as the addition of the Grand Parterre in the 17th century.
How to get there
Château de Fontainebleau is located approximately 69 km from the dazzling city of Paris. Transfers from the city to the castle can be arranged by Easy Go Shuttle or other similar taxi tour providers.
When to visit
Château de Fontainebleau is open from 9:30 am to 5 pm, and from April to Sept the castle is open for an hour longer. The castle is closed on major holidays such as New Year, Christmas, Labour Day and on Tuesdays.
