Built by King Rama V after the king moved his official residence from The Grand Palace to Vimanmek Mansion, the building was completed in 1904 and now functions as a popular tourist stopover. Made out of cement and brick, the premises is made complete with fine wood fretwork, stained glass clerestory windows, patterned balustrades and a coffered ceiling that too made out of wood. Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall was also used as a banquet hall for the Royal Family and an important meeting place for government officials during the annual festivities that were held at the Dusit Garden Palace. In terms of government, offices for the Constitution Judiciary and Reception Unit of the Parliament Secretariat were also set up here. Currently the throne hall affords visitors a chance to marvel at a collection of medallions and accolades that dates back to the rule of King Rama V.
