The Bali Botanical Garden in Ubud is the brainchild and lifelong dream of Stefan Reisner, a German novelist and hotelier, who resides in Bali, Indonesia. Having been inspired by the works of Duke Pückler and Peter Joseph Lenné, creators of the world renowned royal gardens of Potsdam and Berlin, Reisner along with his partner Faizah wished to create something which would showcase the authentic beauty of Bali to the world, after the sale of his Puri Asri hotel hotspot. Thereafter having obtained over 12 acres of land on lease from some of the local villagers in Ubud, Reisner and Faizah set out to make their garden dream a reality.
After being opened to the public in 2006, the garden has gained much admiration and popularity and is fast becoming an essential place to visit in the city. Travellers will be simply mesmerized by the local fauna and flora the garden contains. Located just 1.2 kilometres from the centre of Ubud, it is easily accessible and is an ideal hotspot for travellers seeking a retreat or for families on a picnic. The Bali Botanical Garden encompasses a myriad of ferns, bamboos, pitcher plants, tropical trees and natural ravines, valleys and rivers.
In addition, the garden offers captivating natural vistas and consists of man-made creations such as the labyrinth maze, an Islamic garden and a water-lily garden. Other attractions include the medicinal and cacti gardens, orchid houses and themed gardens such as the chocolate grove. The highlight of the garden is its amphitheatre which is regularly rented out for weddings and other events. It is also a perfect spot for yoga or meditation and even has a designated meditation court.
Whether the traveller is a nature enthusiast or simply looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the garden is the perfect getaway spot to be surrounded by the beauty of nature that the tropical island of Bali is blessed with. To enhance their experience, travellers could stay at Bali resorts such as the Anantara Bali Uluwatu, which is among the finest Uluwatu hotels. Guests could stay at one of its garden pool or ocean front pool villas that offer the perfect setting for an idyllic tropical holiday.
