A melting pot of cultures, Colombo has something for everyone and each time you visit there are new things to experience and discoveries to be made.
For the Beach Lover
The most popular seaside spot in Colombo is probably Mount Lavinia Beach in the suburbs of the city. It’s a family favorite and connects up to the Dehiwela Beach which you can enjoy a pleasant walk to or from. The Wellawatte Beach also deserves a mention and the great thing is that all these coastal areas are within easy reach of most Colombo hotel rooms.
For the Culture Buff
If you are looking to soak up some culture plan a visit to some of the city’s key religious sites. These include the towering Sri Ponnambalam Vanesar Kovil, St. Anthony’s Shrine and the Seema Malakaya Buddhist temple, just 5 minutes from Cinnamon Red Colombo. Also, head to the National Museum of Colombo where you can learn more about the country’s heritage.
For the Shopaholic
Retail therapy can be enjoyed at malls in Colombo the likes of Majestic City, Crescat and Liberty Plaza, while fashionistas should look to visit, GFlock, Kelly Felder and Mimosa. For a more cultural experience head to the area known as Pettah; within this bustling maze of streets, you will find shops and stalls offering almost every item imaginable. Hint; brush up on your bargaining skills!
For the Foodie
For the bona fide foodie, Colombo offers a smorgasbord of flavours to discover. Apart from the traditional rice and curry, you get a range of street food dishes worth trying.
