Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre
A multimedia exhibition that is quite immersive, the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre at the Melbourne Museum offers a fascinating journey through the history of Aborigines in Victoria. A great feature here is a chance to actually meet young and old members of the indigenous community and hear stories, experiences and learn about their identity. Also look to hear the story of how the ancestral spirit portrayed as a eagle, created the Kulin nation as you enter the area known as Bunjil’s nest and head outdoors to explore Milarri Garden trail where you can see and learn about cave paintings and indigenous plants.
Aboriginal Heritage Walk
This special walk at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne is quite a treat for nature and culture lovers. Conducted by Aboriginal guides, this heritage walk provides a great perspective on the land’s original owners and has some memorable interactive elements; learn about traditional practices be it for food or medicine, witness an age-old smoking ceremony and as an added benefit savour lemon myrtle tea which is an ideal way to end your exploration. It is a great place to just unwind too so look to find Melbourne accommodation apartments that are close by. Oaks on William is one option to consider in this regard.
Aboriginal Style Art
Aboriginal art is certainly very much part of this indigenous community’s identity and the intricate designs and paintings are all part of a storytelling tradition. The items here are authentic and make for great gifts or personal mementos with stuff like spears, paintings, ceramics and of course the iconic boomerang.
