The river and the ocean

The fish living in both these bodies of water give the fishermen in Kalutara plenty of bounty. Among the many places to visit in Kalutara is its beach. Drop by the beach in the early morning hours to witness the hard work put in by the fisher community.
The fishing vessel
As you drive along the coast of Kalutara, you’re likely to spot a couple of vessels out in the ocean, but this largely depends on the time of the day. This vessel, known as the “oruwa”, looks quite similar to a canoe and boat, featuring sails of different shapes. There are smaller versions of these vessels, which require the use of paddles to move around and navigate the vessel.
