Founded in 2002, the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) is a financial hub located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With operations commencing from 2004, the centre’s main purpose was to foster development, progression and economical growth in the United Arab Emirates and the surrounding regions. The financial centre falls under a separate jurisdiction of the nation’s constitution, with independent commercial and civil laws. The centre also contains independent courts with judges taken from many countries including Hong Kong, Singapore and England. The DIFC is one of the most prominent buildings in the emirate and is not just a financial hub but is also something of a tourist attraction.

The building houses several art galleries including the Cuadro Fine Art Gallery, the Farjam Collection, the Empty Quarter, the XVA Gallery and the Ayyam Gallery. These galleries showcase the works of regional as well as international artists. It is a terrific place to get a bite to eat with around forty two restaurants and cafes to choose from. Cuisine from all parts of the world including Lebanon, France and Italy can be found here. The Dubai International Financial Centre complex also contains an eclectic collection of shops selling a variety of things including books and clothes.
Somewhat less conservative than its Middle Eastern counterparts, the city has become a regional tourist hub. It is a popular shopping destination containing some of the largest shopping malls in the world and playing host to the annual Dubai Shopping Festival during the months of January and February. The emirate also contains a fair number of tourist attractions such as the Dubai Museum, the Burj Khalifa and the Jumeirah Mosque.

As can be expected of a holiday destination that doubles as a commercial hub, the city contains excellent infrastructure.
