Angkor Wat is one of the many ruins of the Khmer Empire and is a prominent historic site in Cambodia.
History
Angkor Wat, the temple, was built by King Suryavarman, and the temple was originally created in dedication to Lord Shiva of the Hindus. Angkor Wat has been around since 1100 CE and the name itself means a city of temples, which is apt since the temple has about 400 acres of land to call its own.

About
Angkor Wat took 30 years to be completed and historians say that King Suryavarman was believed to be more than a King; he was seen as a demi-God among his people. Many luxury hotels in Siem Reap are inspired by the designs of this temple, like Anantara Angkor Resort for instance.
Facts
Scenes and sayings from the holy book of Mahabharata can be found on the walls of the temple, both in and outside of it.
