The Hulishan Fortress has been protecting the Chinese coastline in Xiamen for nearly 120 years, and it presents a majestic monument set against the horizon, an important historical and cultural landmark on Xiamen Island. Ensure you visit the fort as part of your stay at a quality Xiamen hotel such as the Millennium Harbourview Hotel Xiamen. Affording you majestic views of the city and punctuated by attentive hospitality, it is an excellent hotel in Xiamen for corporate or leisure visitors.
Serving as a strategically important locality during times of the war, the Hulishan Fortress is a mighty monument that both protects and awes. It served as a key point of defense against the Japanese during both world wars, and it was listed in the Guinness World Book of Records in 2000 for its immense cannon that dates back to the 19th century. You can witness the cannon and many other precious artefacts in the small museum located onsite, which features an intriguing collection of ancient weaponry, strange stone formations, and fireworks. You will also come across the world’s tiniest cannon, measuring 11cm long and weights a mere 0.22 kilos, and is of 13th century Portuguese extraction. The fort also affords idyllic views of the Erdan and Dadan islets; see through telescopes poised on the Pangui and Wanggui terraces. Take a break in the charming pavilion and take in some of the views. A visit to Hulishan is one not easily forgotten!
