Amidst the hustle and bustle of Sydney you will find a lush green patch to escape to and enjoy a more laidback and leisurely pace of life; welcome to Hyde Park, the oldest public park in the country and the perfect place to spend lazy days and a bit of exploration too.
Getting there
Hyde Park is located in the heart of the city and is pretty easy to get to. Of course, if you are staying at a Sydney City Hyde Park hotel you can spend even more time here. Public bus services offer access to this attraction as does the St. James and Museum train stations.
Outing at the park
Set amidst 16 picturesque hectares, Hyde Park combines idyllic greenery with various monuments and fascinating fountains. A two minute walk from Oaks Hyde Park Plaza, the park is a popular place for a picnic, quiet stroll or just to laze about. There are two sections here, namely Hyde Park South and Hyde Park North.
Hyde Park South
If you love history or are even a war veteran, then visiting this part of the park will be of interest; here you will find the military monument, the Anzac Memorial beside what is known as the Pool of Reflection. There are other statues and monuments in this area worth seeing as well.
Hyde Park North
One of the most prominent sites that await here is the wonderful Archibald Memorial Fountain; this fountain is massive and features various statues from Greek mythology including Theseus and the Minotaur and Apollo. Definitely an Instagram-worthy picture!
