A compound surrounded by a garden, this lovely house would not be famous if not for the legacy of the American, Jim Thompson.
History
Jim Thompson was an architect who loved collecting artsy Asian objects, and after he served his time in the military and settled in Thailand in 1946, he spent the next 30 years of his creative life trying to bring back life into the silk industry in Thailand. He was the one who took the luxurious materials to fashion capitals like London, Milan, New York and Paris, and for that, he will forever be revered and respected by the people of Thailand. His house stands in his memory, being a showcase for his life and years of work.
Going in
Even a luxury hotel in Bangkok will not have the fine silks you can find at his home, they are exquisite to the touch and shine like molten gold. His house is located close enough to the city, so it’s easily accessible from places like Chatrium Residence Riverside Bangkok, for instance. The mystery that makes everyone visit his house though, is the fact that he went missing in 1967, and no one has heard from him since.
