Consisting of the memorial wall along-side military and war graves, the Kranji War Memorial echoes the sacrifice and courage of the dedicated people who ‘died for all free men’ while defending Singapore in World War II. The memorial wall is a unique architectural figure, built to represent the three branches of the military. It is composed of 12 columns which symbolize the columns of the army, the wing-shaped cover which represents the air force and top which signifies the periscope of a navy submarine. Engraved on both sides of the 12 columns are the names of over 25,000 soldiers who were killed in war but whose bodies were never recovered. Every year, a Remembrance Day event is held in November to honor the lives of those who fought. Many tourists flock to this event.
