
The rock formations and the vast caves as well as the thick tropical rain forest that are found here along with the mangroves. Even though there are 90 identified geo sites in the region there are three distinct areas that form the Langkawi Geopark. Each of them important on in its own regard.
Kilim Karst Geoforest Park is one among them , located on the North East of the island around the area of Kilim and its estuary the terrain in the area is mostly lime stone. Erosion over millions of years has formed many caves , cliffs , pinnacles and other unique landscapes. The Kilim Karst Geopark can be explored by boat as some areas are inaccessible by land. Here you can find age old fossil beds. While on the boat onecan see many marine life as well as spot different types of birds including Eagles.
Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park is a granite mountain range located in the park. The landscapes formed by the sandstone and lime stone dominate the sky line. There is also the Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park , there is a massive fresh water lake in the middle of the park which was formed due to a lime stone cave collapsing,Langkawi is one of the most visited islands off the coast of mainland Malaysia. It’s popular among the tourist and has it’s own international air port. Langkawi Resorts are popular among tourist as they provide great accommodation options of those that come to explore the island.
