One of Thailand’s most beautiful locales is the town of Krabi; resorts here offer some of the most spectacular ocean views. Krabi is the capital of Krabi Province near the Andaman coast. Looking around you will see limestone karsts rising at a steep angle set off by tranquil mangroves forests. The inviting tropical waters offer access to serene private islands and vibrant coral reefs. Start your beach holiday right by booking a stay at Anantara Si Kao Resort, which enjoys an stunning waterfront setting.
Phi Phi’s Maya Bay became famous all around the world after being used as a filming location for ‘The Beach’, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, in 1999. The bay is surrounded on three sides by one hundred metre tall cliffs and a number of beaches, many of which are so small that they disappear at high tide. Maya Bay’s main beach of powdery soft, white sand is around two hundred metres in length. The entire bay is made up of one large reef and the water is crystal clear making for great visibility. Sea kayaking, snorkeling and diving are popular activities as there are plenty of underwater boulders, brightly coloured coral and exotic fish to observe.
November to April is the best time for visiting Maya Bay, the sea is calmer making it easier to enter the bay; Choppy seas during the months between May and October make the journey less enjoyable. The downside of this famous bay is that the beach is often crammed with speedboats and longtail boats. Ferries bring sightseers to the bay but do not approach the beach, tour boats bring visitors to snorkel or kayak. Overnight camping has also been introduced recently, so there is some drinking and loud noise to be expected. Thousands of people visit Maya Bay daily; early morning or after 5pm are the best times to avoid the crowds.
