Onsen is a popular concept in the world, particularly in Japan. Onsen means a Japanese-style relaxing bath where natural hot water is used.
Onsen and Sento
Onsen and Sento are two different concepts. Although both of these terms are referred to as water baths, Onsen deals with hot springs while Sento means just a public hot bath. Sento is not linked with natural springs.
Where to find Onsen?
Onsen is often located in rural areas. This is because natural hot water cannot be found in many places. All of them have a ‘hot bath’ symbol at the entrance making it easy to recognize.
Where to have this experience?
In Japan, areas such as Kusatsu, Kurokawa, and Hakone are considered as famous onsen towns. But, if you stay at a Niseko accommodation venue the likes of Chatrium Niseko Japan, a similar kind of experience is still possible.
Must-know tips when using an onsen
Although many people wish to drink alcohol in the bath area, they will not be allowed due to all possible health risks. They may drink a coffee or fruit juice after the bath and that’s allowed.
