Thailand is a near-magical place that is renowned for containing many adventures waiting to be had, in almost countless measure and scope. One particular adventure a visitor to this majestic country can embark on is by following what is known as Buddha’s trail, a journey that will take you into the heart of Thailand and enable you to witness and experience some of the country’s most ancient monuments with direct links to Buddhist heritage. The trail is situated at Trang province, an area that is saturated with various Buddhist heritage sites, each containing a unique story.
If you’re planning on embarking on an international visit, there are plenty of accommodation option available at Trang, ranging from budget-friendly bed-and-breakfasts to more indulgent choices such as the Anantara Si Kao Resort, one of the major attractions in Trang.
The trail picks off at Tham Phra Buddha, an iconic temple that houses a large statue of the Buddha, but there’s something that still fascinates people to this day. Contained within the image of the Buddha are various expensive house-hold items such as silver-ware and ceramics, which could only have come from a wealthy or maybe even royal source.
Next is Wat Kao Phra, a cave that contains mysterious symbols and even more mysteriously, a well-preserved body of a dead abbot. The enigmatic red-pattern within the cave and the other symbols associated with it still puzzle archaeologists to this day, and remain a complete mystery.
The Lost Elephant cave, locally known as Tham Kao Changhai, has an interior adorned with stalactites and stalagmites. The name of the cave comes from a legend involving a procession of horses and elephants reaching a halt at the entrance to the cave, when the lead elephant was seen crying since her baby had ventured into the cave, and she was too big to venture after it. Despite many searches, the baby elephant was never found.
If it is adventure and mysticism that you seek, head over to the Trang province in Malaysia and embark on a journey like no other.
