The spacious opera house was built under the patronage of Sultan Qaboos and consists of an auditorium, concert theatre, formal gardens that are beautifully landscaped, a cultural market with high-end restaurants as well as an art centre to accommodate any type of opera productions. It was originally named as “House of Musical Arts” and was subsequently renamed as “Royal Opera House Muscat”. The opera house is quite famous for its state-of-the-art entertainment technology that is used to provide the best visual and sound effects to the entire audience wherever they may be seated. It was constructed by Carillion Alawi and was officially declared open for opera lovers in 2011. The first opera that was performed at the venue was called Turandot, a Spanish production.
