For a unique adrenaline rush in Auckland, how about walking around a platform on the country’s tallest building or better yet, jumping off it! Here’s more on these perfectly safe experiences.
Getting There
Both these activities take place at the 328-metre-tall Sky Tower in the heart of the CBD, walking distance from properties like Auckland Harbour Suites. The Britomart Transport Centre is close by too, while those staying at Auckland Harbour hotels can also take an Intercity bus to the nearby Sky City Bus Terminal.
SkyWalk
The SkyWalk experience gives you a chance to walk around a platform of the Sky Tower, 192 metres above the ground; there are no handrails, though there are overhead safety lines and a harness for your body. The views (and not the wind!) will blow you away and you can also lean over the edge for more thrills.
SkyJump
Of course, die-hard adrenaline junkies can try the SkyJump, leaping from the platform to the SKYCITY Plaza, 192 metres below! You will be put in a harness that is linked to a steel cable and the controlled descent takes you on an unforgettable 11-second drop that reaches speeds of 85 kph and spans 53 floors.
Sky Tower
Not feeling up to the challenge of a SkyWalk or SkyJump? Well, you can still head up the Sky Tower where a 220-metre high vantage point offers stunning 360-degree panoramas including key Auckland attractions. There’s also a revolving restaurant here that provides a memorable dining experience too.
