The Blue House, Hong Kong is a four-storey balcony-type tenement block located at 72-74A Stone Nullah Lane, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, China. The Blue House is named as such, after the brilliant blue color painted on its external walls. It is one of the few remaining examples of Tong Lau of the balcony type in Hong Kong and is classified as Grade I historic building. This Blue House is an iconic and visual character defined by its visible site (top of a slope road) and its color Blue. In addition, the house which is more than 80 years, is an example of the historic “shop house” archetype that more or less is disappearing in Hong Kong Island. This building also houses Wan Chai Livelihood museum, where visitors visit the Blue House’s typical living quarters. There are still residents occupying the Blue House, despite some important modern conveniences. Most of the structure’s original elements are still intact and well maintained. Hong Kong House of Stories also offers visitors a glimpse of Blue House’s typical living quarters. The museum is open from 11am to 6pm daily, except Wednesdays and public holidays, and admission to the Blue House is free of charge.
