The Blue Temple, also known as Wat Rong Suea Ten is a famous tourist attraction. Although it’s a temple, the interesting fact is that no monks live here.
The location
It’s one of the most popular Chiang Rai attractions that’s located on Maekok Road. If you spend your vacation at a property such as Hotel Sooknirund, the Blue Temple is within easy access of the hotel.
It’s the House of the Dancing Tiger
Wat Rong Suea means ‘House of the dancing tiger’ in English. Tigers have once roamed this area, and that’s how this name has come into being.
The unique structure
The temple takes a sapphire blue colour, and largely has been influenced by the design of the White Temple located nearby. The temple was fully renovated in 2016, and the exterior as well as the interior have some modern characteristics due to this reason.
The main building
‘Viharn’ is the name given to its main building. It’s an assembly hall that has two statues of huge naga snakes at the entrance. There is also a large white image of Lord Buddha right at the back of this main building.
