Geoffrey Bawa is perhaps the most recognised architect the nation of Sri Lanka has ever produced, whose unique style, tropical modernism, garnered him international fame.
The Man Behind the Award
Geoffrey Bawa was initially a barrister and served in a law firm until the death of his mother, after which he spent a third of his life till reaching 28 years of age, abroad. He later developed a fascination for architecture and sought further study in the field.
Geoffrey Bawa’s Work
Throughout his career Bawa designed and built many notable works of architecture, including thirty hotels and resorts throughout the world. There’s many a Geoffrey Bawa hotel in Sri Lanka itself, either built by him, or designed in tribute to his work, such as Anantara Kalutara Resort.

The Award
The present award commemorates the 98th anniversary of Geoffrey Bawa’s birthday and will be presented by the chairperson of the Geoffrey Bawa Trust along with a million rupees in cash.
Additional Details
There have been a total of sixty-five projects that were submitted for consideration, and eleven have them have been shortlisted for the award. The keynote speech will be delivered by Fiona Hal, a renowned Australian sculptor, painter and photographer.
