Bodh Gaya is the birthplace of Buddhism, where the Bodhi tree under which Buddha is said to have attained nirvana. It is possibly the most important place for Buddhist devotees around the world.
A Place of Solitude
Because Bodh Gaya is a sacred place it is a place of wonderful solitude. There is no meat or alcohol and it is not equipped for tourists. So, it’s the perfect place to go and reconnect with your soul. Despite the seclusion, there are Bodhgaya hotels available in the area.
When the prince that went on to become Gautama Buddha attained nirvana, he is said to have been sitting under a bodhi tree which is known as the Maha Bodhi. The present tree is not the original, but it is in the same location.
Transport and Staying in Bodh Gaya
It is recommended that you should visit it during the off-peak seasons as it tends to be flooded with victims. Staying locally at a place like Oaks Bodhgaya means you won’t have to spend a lot of time travelling.
