Built by Royal Decree
The construction of the Royal Opera House Muscat followed an order bySultan Qaboos of Oman. Featuring architecture that blends Islamic and Italian elements as well as contemporary and traditional styles, the venue opened in 2011 with Plácido Domingo performing in the opera Turandot. Those staying at nearby Oman hotels can easily visit this site and take in its beauty even if not attending a show.
Showcasing the Very Best
The performance season generally runs from September to June with around six operas presented as part of the line-up. Visitors can also look forward to ballet, classical music, musical theatre and more. Apart from Plácido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Mariinsky Ballet (performing Swan Lake) and YoYo Ma have performed here.
