The Tap Seac Gallery in Macau is the epitome of an upper class home during the 1920’s and is an important building in terms of history as well as its present day purpose. The building with its brick and yellow hued walls, arched doors, louvered windows and cornices on the front walls lend a distinct European flair.
The Tap Seac Gallery was inaugurated in 2003 on December 5th following the need to enhance the appreciation of local art and culture among the community, as well as to develop the latent creativity within the people of Macau. Managed by the Macau Special Administrative Regional Government’s Cultural Institute, the gallery has more than achieved its original goal and has now become an internationally important place to host exhibitions and also lectures, conventions and other such educational events.
The 400 odd square metres of space consists of a front and back portion which was mainly due to the fact that the front portion was part of the original building and the back portion, being the part that was added to the main building. In keeping with the preservation of historical accuracy, the inner wall separating the two portions is still intact.
The exhibition space is utilised all year around with permanent as well as seasonal exhibits, both local and international. The gallery portion is most often used as a lecture hall and for discussions and other activities.
If you wish to learn and experience Macau art, its inspirations, history, and its culture all in one go, the Tap Seac Gallery is the place to visit. Open all seven days, every day of the year except for when maintenance work or exhibit installation work is being carried out, it is the ideal site for a visit with the entire family.
