Located in the districts of Polonnaruwa and Matale, the Wasgamuwa National Park offers exciting safaris into Sri Lanka’s jungles. This protected nature reserve is rich in biodiversity and has a wide range of flora and fauna. The park has over 20 species of mammals including a large herd of Sri Lankan elephants, toque macaques, while water buffalo and deer. Though not easy to come across, the Sri Lanka leopard can also be sometimes seen in the park. The Wasgamuwa National Park has recorded around 143 species of birds making it an ideal spot for bird watching too.
