Overview
For many a century, the true origin and value of this Buddha image were not known; however, during the 1950s, it was discovered that it was made of solid gold.
Installation of Gold Buddha
Once this massive Buddha image ended up in the Wat Traimit, a viharn was built to house it. When the image was being moved to the new building with the help of a crane, its cable has broken, and the image has fallen to the ground, which made its plaster coating to break, revealing the gold inside.
Location
The Wat Traimit can be found situated on Thanon Mittaphap Thai-China, which is located just east of Thanon Yaowarat in Chinatown.

You have to either use the MRT Subway or a taxi to get to this temple. Admission to this intriguing temple complex is absolutely free.
