Marvel at the grace and beauty of the whale sharks and Manta Rays as you swim alongside them in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Here is a bit about these magnificent marine creatures.
Manta Rays
Considered to be classified as a fish, the Manta Rays are mysterious creatures indeed. The largest known manta ray is supposedly 7.6 metres (25 feet) across and weighs around 2300 kilos! Most often manta rays are compared to stingrays but the difference is that they don’t have the stinging barb.
Whale Sharks
Known to be the largest living fish in the world, the whale sharks are a staggering 14 metres long (46+ feet)! They generally have a peaceful nature and are quite harmless. However, it takes an experienced diver to swim with these whale sharks without spooking them off!
Best time to find them
The best part is that these creatures can be spotted any time of the year in the Mozambique waters, however, they are best seen in the summer. So make sure you arrange for special snorkelling and diving excursions while booking your holiday at Mozambique resorts such as the Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort
Other marinelife you can see
Although the Mozambique waters are famous for manta rays and whale sharks, there are so many other sea creatures that you can witness here. Some of them include turtles, dugongs and if your lucky enough – the southern right and humpback whales.
