Fun fact
The Otaru Aquarium was founded in 1958 and is situated close to the coast of the city. It is also the largest aquarium in Hokkaido so far. There are performances to be witnessed by over 250 species and a total of nearly 5000 species living here.
Petting centres
The aquarium shelters mostly cold-water animals. There are petting centres as well. Your kids will love interacting with Gentoo penguins who are lively and playful and cute spotted seals and walruses who blow kisses.
Dolphin performances
The dolphin performances are quite popular with kids. The dolphin at Otaru Aquarium put on a lovely show with a bunch of synchronised flips, splashes and dives. If you happen to be staying at Grand Park Otaru make sure to visit these sweet creatures!
