While Tianjin in China has a rich history, one of its main attractions is much more modern; towering above the cityscape, the Tianjin Eye is an impressive Ferris wheel that offers memorable rides too!
Getting There
The Tianjin Eye is on Yongle Bridge, built over the Hai River; the lower platform of the bridge offers access to the site. The Yongle Bridge, Shijitianle and Yuanwei Road bus stations are close by, while city hotels like Pan Pacific Tianjin are only around a 12-minute walk away. Remember, on Mondays, the attraction is closed in the morning.
Imposing Structure
This Ferris wheel spans a height of 394 feet (120 metres) and it’s billed as the only one of its kind in the world to be constructed over a bridge. A sight to behold while exploring the city from a nearby Tianjin hotel, this structure which was opened in 2009, features 48 capsules for passengers.
The Ride at Daytime
Each of these air-conditioned capsules can hold eight people and it takes an average of half an hour to complete a full rotation. At its highest point and on a clear day, you will be able to see up to 40 km away taking in breathtaking panoramas of the city and boats along the river.
Tianjin Eye at Night
A ride on the Tianjin Eye at night offers a different perspective of the city as it sparkles to life. This Ferris wheel is also lit up with neon lights making it a unique sight to see and photograph; one of the best vantage points to take this in is from the nearby Jingang Bridge.
