Dedduwa Lake is quite popular due to the famous Lunuganga Estate located on its banks. It was Geoffrey Bawa’s country estate and it was named as Lunuganga by Bawa himself; it can be translated as Salt River from the native language.
Departure Point to the Lake
The Water Gate of Lunuganga Estate, which can be found right near Dedduwa Lake was used (and is still in use today) as the entrance point for all the boats that need to go sailing at the lake and toward the islands of Appaladuwa and Honduwa.
