Kandy was the last kingdom to resist colonial rule. They held out thanks to the rough terrain and difficulty in getting to the city which is spread out across a plateau that is tightly protected by mountains on all sides.

The Botanical Gardens
The Peradeniya Botanical Gardens are known for a wide variety of plants spread out across 59 acres. It was once part of the royal family gardens. There are about 4000 species of plants including some very rare plants. The gardens were mostly used for experimenting with coffee and tea by the British in the 1820s.
The Temple of the Tooth Relic
The reason that Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site is thanks to the Temple of the Tooth Relic. It is a holy place for Buddhists all over the world.
The Kandy Lake
The Kandy lake is a beautiful man-made lake constructed by the last king of Kandy. It’s a great place for a morning or evening walk. It takes less than an hour to the lake from Cinnamon Citadel Kandy.
