Where Is It

Originally wooden and used by Rajah Sulaiman as a castle, this was decimated by Spaniards and utilised as a defence site. This was in turn totalled by Chinese pirates and rebuilt using stone. Fort Santiago is now a historical site, containing galleries, cafes and souvenir stores with beautifully landscaped parks containing fountains.
Significance
Reports state that thousands of Filipino and American soldiers were tortured and executed here. Dr Jose Rizal was a Filipino national hero who was tortured and executed here, and there is an entire gallery dedicated to his memory.
