Contact an NGO
You cannot just walk out on a fine morning and clean the beach all by yourself, it would take you days, thus, it is better to find out about the beach cleanup events taking place, and join the group.
Holiday Cleanup
If you are on a holiday in Sri Lanka and are put up at a Kalutara hotel the likes of AVANI Kalutara Resort, for instance, you could ask your hotel helpdesk about the local beach cleanup crews and join them during one of the events.
What to expect
It is not going to be easy. These groups head out to the beach in the wee morning hours and start picking up garbage and other things found on the beach. A well-planned beach cleanup with a lot of volunteers would take a few hours, depending on the size of the beach, but you will feel super accomplished by the end of it.
Preventing this
If everyone who went to the beach just cleaned up after themselves, there will not be a need for such volunteering and beach cleanup crews, so, the first step to clean a beach is to literally pick up after yourself!
