The attraction, recognized as a historical site, is a must see when you travel to China. It is known that the fortress was built for safety from enemy canons and the base of it was filled with a profusion of camphor tree sap, clay, liquid brown sugar, sand, and glutinous rice, due to its mixture being fire resistant. The Hulishan Fortress sprawls across a land area of 13,000 square metres and it was the main fort among several others in the area at the time. The cannon, together with its others were brought to the compound by the Germans and they are 13 meters long.
