Nizwa Fort was once used as a vantage point to safeguard the town during the war. Well, sure, you would discover the ancient Omani culture when you indulge in Hammam rituals at your spa in Oman, but you will miss out greatly if you forego visiting this extraordinary fort during your holiday at Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort.
Astonishing Capacity
This massive fort can hold much more than you’d initially think. In the past, it housed Imam with his family, guards, royal servants, along with guests and religious scholars. Plus, it also housed a school, mosque, and prison.
Secret Passageways
You can climb winding staircases that will lead into places where everyone could be safe from invaders in the past. Some stairs even have wooden planks that could be removed so that the enemies were trapped in deep open pits. Don’t worry – these no longer exist as they were closed to safeguard tourists!
Murder Holes
The small watch holes that one can see up in the fort walls served not only as observation points but also as openings through which boiling hot date syrup could be dumped on the heads of the raiders. These are known as murder holes.
Intriguing Exhibits
A range of splendid exhibits can be observed here that showcase the splendour of the fort’s flourishing past. These include weapons, swords, a diverse range of jewellery.
