Built in 1671 by Imam Bel’arab bin Sultan Al Yarubi, Jabrin Fort is three storied with 13 feet thick walls and stands on a vast plain. The high ceilinged rooms have Moghul style arches and walls have delicate etchings of Islamic inscriptions. The Sun and Moon Hall is a special VIP reception hall with 14 windows and eye shaped ceiling designs.The huge Date Store on the ground floor has channels through which date juice had run to storage vats.The Court Room has the Scales of Justice hanging from a wall and a tiny hole in a wall for the convicted people to crawl to the outside. Jabrin Fort has separate prisons for men and women.
The rooftop has a mosque and a madrasah (Quaranic School).Jabrin Fort has its own irrigation channels (Falaj) which run through the buildings. The Falaj was originally a means of air conditioning and not of irrigation. Defensive features include hidden holes to shoot at enemies and the infamous Murder Holes through which boiling date syrup was poured on invaders.To the right of the central keep is a crypt styled grotto where the tomb of Iman Bil’arab bin Sultan bin Saif Asiis. Jabrin Fort is well worth visiting.
