When you holiday in the Maldives, you’re bound to be surrounded by a lot of beautiful scenic views and so on. However, if you’re up for a bit of history, then you must absolutely visit the National Museum of Maldives.
Where is it?
The National Museum is situated in Male, the capital of Maldives. Tourists usually go straight to their respective resort islands as soon as they land in the capital of Maldives, however, for an experience with more local exposure, a visit to the museum is a great idea. Before heading over to your beach resort in Maldives, the likes of Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives, a visit to the museum is surely worth it!
The Building
The museum is housed in a three-story building that’s found in the Sultan Park in Male. The building was designed, built and financed by the Chinese government and was presented to the Maldives on 10th July 2010. The interior of the building is the same, with the handwritten Qu’ran engravings still on the walls of the building.
The displays
With galleries devoted to the ancient and medieval periods of Maldivian history, you’ll find a plethora of artifacts that have a story of their own. The coral-stone head of Lord Buddha is one of the most prominent!
