The Shanghai Wild Animal Park is situated in the town of Sanzao in Nanhui, in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area. Spanning over 150 hectares of land, the animal park is a highly popular local attraction. The zoo contains around two hundred animals divided into five major sections- penned animals, herbivores, wild animals, performing animals and other animals. The performing hall is filled with parrots, monkeys, sheep and even lions and tigers, while the penned area contains kangaroos, ostriches along with some rare animals such as Giant Pandas. To navigate the wild animal area one has to get on a special bus.
The park is situated roughly twenty miles outside of the Shanghai city centre. Tickets cost CNY 130 for adults and CNY 65 for children. It is quite easy to get here by public transport. Those coming by subway can get off at the Zhangjiang High Technology Park Station and then take a bus from there. Opening hours are between 8 am and 5 pm from March to November and between 8 am and 4.30 pm the rest of the year. As China’s first national grade zoo, the Shanghai Wild Animal Park is definitely worth visiting. The zoo is not just for families but can be fun for everyone.
When it comes to China most tourists like to stick with Beijing and Shanghai, which are the biggest and most popular cities around. However, the country has a lot more to offer and is known to reward tourists who go off the beaten track. China has a near endless list of attractions that are sure to leave tourists wanting more. Of course there are a few challenges that most travellers face when trying to explore a country as vast as China, the main two being travel and lodging.
Luckily China has an excellent public transport system and one can find plenty of hotels in China that provide terrific service. The Millennium & Copthorne Hotels China runs a chain of Greater China hotels that boast convenient locations and provide the same high standard of service. They provide a sense of familiarity that can make guests feel at home even in new surroundings.
