Sohar Castle is a prominent landmark in the area and it is also one of the most visited tourist locations in the city.
Historical importance
The fort is said to be built by the Prince of Hormuz during the time he was reigning, and it said the Portuguese then took over. The control of the fort moved through the rule of several countries and was later the residence of the governor.
Archaeological excavations
The uncertainty of when the castle and fort were created was cleared during excavations that took place and it was confirmed that the structure was completed in the fourteenth century.

The complex now includes a museum which is informative and descriptive and perfect for history buffs. The history also speaks about the copper trade in the city and the importance it played in making the Sohar Fort an important location in the eyes of colonisers.
