At the first glance Negombo may appear like a real touristy area for sun and sand with its stretch of golden miles so befriended by sunny days and friendly waves. Negombo is a coastal town known for its fishing as well as the thriving tourism and is found conveniently close to the Katunayake International Airport. The town was also subjected to conversion to catholic and this coversion was apparently a huge success and is evident in the numerous churches that are seen in and around Negombo. For the same reason Negombo came to be known as the ‘Little Rome’. The remains of the Dutch Fort with its fine gateways can still be seen at the sea side while there is also a neat and picturesque little Dutch church closeby.
