The Wahiba Sands is now known as the Sharqiya Sands and is a desert area located in Oman, with both flora and fauna within itself.
Geology
Naturally created during the Quaternary era, this desert area was formed with the joint forces of a monsoon and a trade wind.
About
Sharqiya Sands or Wahiba Sans, as it is referred to locally, is a gorgeous desert area with picture perfect golden red dunes. The people of Bedu live in the desert and this lets you view the older, traditional way of living they still follow.
What to expect
The Bedouin people are traditional Muslims and the women of the clan wear the full black costumes as per norm. A day trip to the place is good, but a trip during the sunset is highly recommended at that is the best view, followed by the night views on the desert, which is even better.
Location
Any hotel in Muscat will point you in the right direction to the Wahiba Sands, and the desert is accessible from places like Al Falaj Hotel and more. There are many other attractions around the area and staying at a place that is located centrally is a good idea when on vacation.
