1. Stroll Along the Canal
The canal is what makes Otaru so magical. It is situated close to Grand Park Otaru and was constructed in 1923. The walkways along the canal are fascinating for a night-time stroll lit by ancient oil lamps. You can also tour the canal by boat.
2. Explore the Glassware Factory
Most of the glassware products in Japan are produced in Otaru. It is very famous for its glass balls and oil lamps and there are plenty of workshops that you go and check out the wares.
3. Eat and Ice Cream
Otaru is known all over Hokkaido for its delicious ice cream, especially the unique flavours. Be sure to try the sea urchin flavour and the shockingly black squid ink flavour.
4. Visit the Otaru Museum
Head out of your Otaru Hotel Near Jr Station this winter and explore the myriad of museums that you can find in the city like the Otaru Museum if you find it too cold to hang out outside. It will show you the city’s interesting history in a series of dioramas.
