The Virtual War Memorial in Adelaide stands at the corner of Kintore Avenue and North Terrace and is a large arched monument of Harcourt Granite, Macclesfield Marble and Bronze. At the center of the Arch is a white Angaston Marble figure of a Spirit of Duty holding a Crusader’s sword in his hands as a cross symbolizing battle and sacrifice. In front of this figure are three bronze figures on a gray, granite pedestal – a farmer with a plough, a student and a young girl looking at the Winged Spirit of Duty .To the left is an entrance to the crypt. At the back of the arch stands a female Winged Spirit holding a sheathed Crusaders’ Sword in her right hand symbolizing the futility of war. She cradles a naked man on her left arm and carries a wreath in her left hand. Before her flows the waters of a Fountain of Compassion the water pouring forth from a crowned Lions Head into a pool- A sealed globe in ornate ceilings, lights the room and there are bronze panels in it with the names of the men engraved on them.
Tributes to the supreme sacrifice are displayed and the one below embodies the gratitude of those left behind.
