In the Persian Gulf to northwest Bahrain is this beautiful group of artificial islands called ‘Amwaj Islands’. They are quite new, but you are sure to be amazed by their existence.
A bit from the history…
The concept of Amwaj Islands came up in 2000. The construction process followed a few stages and saw its completion in 2016.
It’s an engineering marvel
Amwaj Island covers an area of 4.31 sq km. The entire area is reclaimed from relatively shallow seas, and this itself is an engineering marvel. This concept has made the ‘Smart City’ dream a reality in Bahrain. In addition to the commercial and residential buildings, it’s also home to an international school, a university, a fuel station, and many more facilities today.
Sub-islands to explore
The Jarada, Theme, and Tala islands are located nearby. Fanar Beach is located to the west of the Amwaj Islands.
Its attractions
Other attractions here include the Central Lagoon, Meena 7 (a development project), and the Floating City. If you are holidaying in one of the Bahrain hotel apartments the likes of Somerset Al Fateh Bahrain, it’s just a half an hour drive to head to Amwaj Islands.
